We are delighted that you are interested in joining the San Diego Children’s Choir. We offer introductory music classes for children ages 3-6 in our Prelude Program and sequential choral training for 1st–12th graders in our Ensemble Program at locations throughout the county.
Ensemble Program choirs rehearse weekly led by the Choir's accomplished conductors and professional accompanists, and each choir performs throughout the year. Repertoire ranges from medieval to contemporary works: through all eras of the classical genres to jazz, gospel, folk, musical theater, and pop, and from countries around the world. Each choir level builds a foundation of skills for the next level. Children and youth in grades 4–12 require an audition for placement purposes.
Enrollment is open twice per year: July - September for the Fall semester and November - February for the Spring semester.
PRELUDE PROGRAM
(AGES 3–6)
Prelude is a gently paced early childhood music program for children ages 3-6 designed to nurture young voices through singing, movement, rhythm play, storytelling, and imaginative exploration. No parent participation needed.

PREPARATORY CHOIR (GRADES 1–3*)
Our Preparatory Choir is our youngest ensemble level for beginning singers/music readers and requires no audition. The choir performs locally 4-6 times per year, allowing your child the chance to shine.

Apprentice Choir (grades 4–6)
Apprentice Choir is our first auditioned choir level for students in grades 4-6 with all levels of music experience. The choir performs locally 6-10 times per year, including having the opportunity to participate in a local mini-tour.

Intermediate Choir (grades 6–8)
Our auditioned Intermediate Choir is our advanced training ensemble and is excellent for students in grades 6-8 with a passion for music, and any level of music experience. The choir performs locally 6-10 times per year, including an opportunity to participate in a regional mini-tour.

PREMIER Choir (grades 7–12)
Premier Choir is the face of the San Diego Children’s Choir and participates in the highest profile performance opportunities, including annually with the San Diego Symphony. Youth in this auditioned advanced treble ensemble are experienced music readers and those with a strong commitment to choir. Choristers perform in 8-15 concerts each season, including local collaborative and high-profile performances. They also have the opportunity to participate in summer tours that alternate from national to international.

youth chorale
(Grades 8–12)
Our Youth Chorale is a mixed voice ensemble for those in grades 8-12, with all levels of music reading experience, who are interested in minimal commitment outside of rehearsal. Choristers perform in 4-8 local concerts each season.

Chamber Choir (Grades 10–12)
Our auditioned Chamber Choir is for high school students in grades 10-12 who are strong music readers and committed to choir. Chamber choir collaborates regularly with local professional ensembles and perform in 8-15 concerts each season, including local collaborative and high-profile performances. They also have the opportunity to participate in summer tours that alternate from national to international.
