Apprentice Choir is our first auditioned choir level for students in grades 4-6 with all levels of music experience. The choir performs locally 6-10 times per year, including having the opportunity to participate in a local mini-tour

Weekly Rehearsal Schedule and Locations

Fall Semester Schedule: August 30 - December 5, 2026
Spring Semester Schedule: Late January - May, 2027

Meets one time a week at the following locations. Parents select their preferred site upon registration.

Weekly rehearsals consist of up to 25 students per site, with the full ensemble gathering to rehearse together at least once per semester


Curriculum & SKills LEarned

  • Children continue developing foundational vocal techniques and establish a well-supported, healthy singing voice (head-voice) and postural awareness

  • An expanded focus on solfège, rhythms, music literacy and performance skills

  • They sing in unison, expanded rounds, and frequently two-part repertoire in multiple languages and styles which build on performance skills, including expression and musicality. Repertoire changes every semester

  • Music literacy training (Orff and Kodály methods) and healthy vocal training


Performances and other events

  • Two major SDCC concerts per year (Winter and Spring)

  • 1-2 "All Together" rehearsals per semester (for all sites to rehearse together)

  • 3-5 additional performances per semester, some optional

  • Optional full-day “mini-tour” each spring semester


Audition Qualificiations

  • An audition is required, all music experience levels welcome

  • Children match and repeat pitches and rhythms, are competent English readers and function comfortably in the group rehearsal environment


Tuition and Fees

  • Annual Registration Fee* ($45) + Uniform Purchase ($60-120 casual & formal) + Concert Tickets ($0-$45 per concert)
