What Our Parents Say 2026
At the end of each season, we invite our families to share their feedback to help us strengthen our programs and better serve every child. This year's results were especially encouraging: more than 96% of parents who said they would recommend the San Diego Children's Choir to a friend.
Nearly 70 families reflected on their experiences during the 2025–2026 season, consistently highlighting their children's growth in confidence, sense of belonging, lasting friendships, exceptional music education, and unforgettable performance opportunities.
Many families join SDCC because their children love to sing. They stay because they discover so much more.
Here are the results.
Confidence That Extends Beyond the Stage
9 in 10 parents said their child grew in confidence through Choir.
More than almost any other theme, parents described seeing their children grow in confidence, not only as singers, but as young people.
One parent wrote:
"My child has become happier and more confident at SDCC,
and I can tell that he truly enjoys music and singing."
Another shared:
"Lucas has become more confident and outgoing through the choir.
He's learned teamwork, made great friends, and truly fallen
in love with singing—thanks to the wonderful teachers."
For many children, that confidence develops rehearsal by rehearsal, performance by performance, and season by season.
A Place Where Children Belong
Families also described something that is difficult to measure but easy to recognize: belonging.
One parent summed it up simply:
"SDCC is more than an extracurricular activity and more like a big family."
Another reflected:
"The choir is about much more than learning proper singing technique. It's about creating community, giving children an outlet for their creativity, and making new friendships. We have loved our first year!"
Those reflections capture one of SDCC's core values: creating a welcoming community where every child feels supported, connected, and encouraged to thrive.
High Quality Music Education
Excellence in music education was a recurring theme throughout the survey. Families rated the quality of SDCC's choral music education 4.6 out of 5, while praising the artistic leadership, dedicated directors, and high standards that make the program so meaningful for their children.
"Highest quality group music education in San Diego."
"The quality of programming is unmatched."
"The high caliber teaching and technical basis in music theory are a standout."
Whether children are just beginning their musical journey or preparing for advanced performance opportunities, parents described SDCC as a place where young singers are challenged, encouraged, and inspired.
Growing Through Performance
From singing with the San Diego Symphony to a Padres game, community concerts, and touring opportunities, parents consistently described performances as experiences that help children grow in confidence while creating lifelong memories.
As one parent shared:
"The performance opportunities allow them time to apply what they are learning."
Another wrote:
"Our daughter's love of music and singing flourished at SDCC.
As parents, it's a joy to see her growth at every concert."
For many children, those performances become milestones because they discover what they're capable of accomplishing.
Listening and Growing Together
While we're grateful for the encouragement families shared, we're equally thankful for their thoughtful suggestions.
Each year, parent feedback helps shape the SDCC experience. This year's survey included ideas for parent communication, creating even more opportunities for children to build friendships, providing greater clarity around costs, and continuing to make our programs accessible to every family. Those insights help us continue learning, improving, and serving our community even better.
We learned from our SDCC families that having a clear picture of the full cost of participation is important when planning for the year. To make this information easier to find, we continue to list additional expenses beyond tuition, such as fees for ticketed performances, costumes, or other program-related costs, on our Tuition and Fees page.
Our goal is to provide transparent information so families can make informed decisions and plan with confidence.
