    Auditions

Membership in the Choir is by audition, except for our Preparatory Choir. The purpose of the audition is to insure the potential chorister has a healthy voice and can sing on pitch. Audition appointments are held 3 times a year:

    • Last week in May, first week in June
    • Last week in August, first week in September
    • Last week in December (we do not audition during the holidays), first week in January.

Appointments are made by calling the Choir office at (858) 587-1087 or by requesting an audition using our contact form.

Auditions are brief, five to ten minutes. Phrases and scales are played on a piano and the child is asked to sing them. No preparation is necessary. The auditions are held individually at the piano with each child. Parents may remain in the room if the child wishes.

    Membership and Tuition

Enrollment in the choir is for the school year (September through June). Each member is expected to stay active and committed to the program for the entire school year. There is a $30 audition fee and a yearly registration fee of $30. Tuition is graduated depending on Choir level –

    • $540 per year for Preparatory Level Choristers,
    • $640 per year for Intermediate Level Choristers, and
    • $740 per year for Concert and Youth level Choristers.

There are several different payment plans that are available as well. The policy of the Choir is to keep tuition affordable to all members of our community. Discounts are available for siblings and full year payment and scholarships are available for families of low income.

Tuition fees pay less than one-half the cost of operating the Choir. The remainder is obtained by government support, earned income, and individual, foundation, and corporate contributions.

Additional details on performance and rehearsal procedures and policy can be found in the San Diego Children's Choir Handbook.
