The Power of Expression

The benefits from music education are beyond beneficial, they are practically essential! Our choristers learn to express themselves through a high standard of choral performance and artistic communication. Each child develops vocal, musical, aural and analytical skills, and benefits from age-appropriate training of the maturing voice as part of a comprehensive choral music education.

The Choir is open to boys and girls, ages 4 to 18, from all racial, ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds. The Choir is divided into 4 main levels:

  • Preparatory (ages 6-7, grades 1-2), this level introduces music to the child and focuses on in-tune singing skills and building basic rhythmic skills.
  • Intermediate (ages 8-10, grades 3-5), for choristers who have completed Preparatory Choir training. The Intermediate Choir participates in local performances and tour locally, normally within Southern California.
  • Concert (ages 11-14, grades 6-9), for choristers with more developed voices. It is at this level that choristers begin touring nationally and internationally.
  • Youth (ages 15-18), for advanced singers, normally consisting of high school choristers. Girls progress to the Youth Choir when they enter the tenth grade. Boys progress to the Youth Choir also in the tenth grade unless their voice changes earlier.
