Yesterday was, as we were warned it would be, thoroughly annoying. A wakeup call came at exactly 5:00 AM so that we could scurry and gather all our things (most of which were nowhere near the backpack they originally came in), pack, then rush to get something to eat.

After eating, we went back to our rooms to wait for our color group and number to be called. Many of us fell asleep while waiting, and we’re told there are incriminating pictures of said event. After our number was called and we dragged our carry-on baggage to the gangway, we disembarked at the Vancouver port. We waited in lines, cleared customs, waited in more lines, picked up our luggage, then waited in yet another line to get onto the bus.

Once on the bus, we went through Vancouver, arriving at Christ Church Cathedral where we had our two hour rehearsal. After rehearsing (and getting really confused as to how about two hundred people were going to fit on a really tiny stage), we were given some time to go eat lunch and explore a shopping center.

After lunch, we went on a guided bus tour of Vancouver. We went through Chinatown, Gas Town, the Japanese part of town, then ended in Stanley Park. Once our tour was finished and we said goodbye to our tour guide, we went back to the hotel and checked in. We were less-than-pleased with the severely congested (and really ridiculously slow) elevators, but finally managed to get to our rooms. We pulled out our performance outfits and started making our traditional Mock-Awards, then quickly changed for dinner in the hotel dining room.

After dinner, we rushed to change into our performance outfits for our final concert. We trekked a half a block to Christ Church Cathedral from our hotel, warmed up, then waited in the Parish Hall to perform. After a few minutes, we meticulously made our way to the stage, taking care not to step on anyone’s dresses and also not to trip on the risers.

We sang “Sound the Trumpet,” “Psalm 150,” and “Full Fathom Five” with Sir David Willcocks conducting, then sang “An Die Musik,” “The Trout,” “She Piped For Us,” “Simple Gifts,” “I Bought Me A Cat,” and “Pasta” with some of our extremely talented choristers dancing in front and Duaine Wolfe as conductor.

After we sang, there was a fifteen minute intermission then the adult choir performed their pieces. We got to sit and listen, then we all squeezed onstage to sing our final two pieces. We sang “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” with Duain Wolfe and Bach’s “Dona Nobis Pachem” in B minor with Sir David Willcocks.

After the concert, we went back to the hotel for a small reception, then went to our rooms to re-pack our suitcases and to enjoy the extreme comfort of the overly-cushy beds.

NOTE: Duane had challenged the kids to write an alternate ending to “The Trout.” The original had the fisherman catching the trout, but Kathleen Winger wrote an alternative ending where the trout outwitted the fisherman, and they used it at the concert! Also, Lauren Levin choreographed some antics for “Pasta,” and along with Megan Dray and Kathleen Winger, as well as three choristers from CCCC, performed to hilarious effect. We were very proud of all of our girls! Lieke
