Day 9 - July 5, 2005

Dear Journal,

Today we woke up at 8 am. After a breakfast of croissants and cereal, we climbed onto the bus. We arrived at the Colosseum. We were given a tour of the famous building which included an upstairs and downstairs. The building was actually in really bad shape, because the outside wall is close to non-existent. The tour was very informative. We then got back into the bus and were given a driving tour of all of Rome.

We traveled back to the hotel. We were then given free time to go in the pool or just relax. Then we had to change into our concert clothes.

We had to go through tight security into the Vatican, but finally arrived at St. Peter's Basilica. We had time to walk through and view the cathedral first. Then we sang in St. Peter's during a mass. Dr. Krantz had to play the church organ for the first time. We sang Dona Nobis Pacem, A Gaelic Blessing, and Ave Verum during the mass.

Afterwards, we slowly walked to the bus, and then we changed in the bus. During the evening, we walked & shopped around Piazza Navona. The main fountain was sculpted by Bernini. We look at the vendor's shops, and then we had dinner at Taverna Parione. We shopped a little more, went on the bus, and then traveled to the hotel to get some shut-eye.
