Our programme for the forthcoming tour of California includes works from the standard classical repetoire e.g. I waited for the Lord (Mendelssohn), Panis Angelicus (Cesar Franck); contemporary classics e.g. For the Beauty of the Earth (Rutter). In recent years the choir has earned a reputation for promoting contemporary Welsh composers, this tour will feature the rhythmical and vibrant sounds of Brian Hughes and the more lyrical popular style of Robat Arwyn.
Wales is renowned for its penillion and folk singing, we include several attractive arrangements to stir the Welsh 'hiraeth' e.g. Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn, Myfanwy, Y Deryn Pur and a touching setting of Welsh lullabies.
Spirituals have always contributed significantly in the choir's development, the arrangements of The Battle of Jericho and Didn't it Rain are quite demanding of technical skill. African sounds and rhythms also have an appeal for young voices, the zulu melody Siyahamba has long since established itself in the choral repetoire and the choir have had a lot of fun learning new arrangements by Michael Brewer e.g. the Nigerian influenced O-Re-Mi.
No programme would be complete without a presentation of the popular idiom, here we include classics by the Beatles and Abba to name but two. Interspersed among the choral items will be some solos and duets to complement the programme.
All in all we hope to entertain you!
