Youth Choir members who attend Torrey Pines High School represented themselves well at the Torrey Pines Graduating Ceremony this past week. Six of the Choristers auditioned together and were selected to perform the National Anthem. The group, consisting of Savita Lyengar, Jason Lee, Marie Marandola, Ruby Pai, Rachel Seltzer and Henry Scott, performed the Anthem in three part harmony and were well received by the graduating class and parents in attendance. All are graduating seniors except Junior Henry Scott. Normally only seniors perform in the ceremony but the group partioned for an exception since they needed Henry's bass part for balance. Youth Choir member Jessica Quinsaat joined with a senior friend and was selected to perform "When You Believe" with the Torrey Pines Band and Orchestra. The song featured both duets and solos by each singer and their performance was outstanding. Finally, Marie Marandola was selected as the Graduation Speaker. In her talk, entitled "On Top of the Mushroom", she related learning experiences as a result of her monthly column in the school newspaper for the past two years. Her talk was humorous, informative, and thought-provoking All of the speakers and singers were selected by the Graduation Committee consisting of faculty and senior class officers and the Choir is indeed proud of them. |
