Our first concert was today and aside from the surprise baptism and Ms. Dougan's, well… improvising it went well. The weather here is not living up to the hotness promised and the potential of rain prior to our "nature walk" this morning was rather depressing. However, the rain never came, it was just cold. The hiking wasn't bad and the elf like German man in lederhosen and crooked teeth that seems to appear everywhere brightened the walk with Fanta and Schpezi. We walked up a familiar trail to the exact same restaurant where we got the exact same pork and potatoes as we had the night before. Loading back into the bus, we drove to Schmalkalden, much enjoying the very pretty scenery and greenness. We has some festive ice cream and wandered freely about the barren town (Europe closes on Sunday). We even made some friends: a stray cat, some kids that laughed at Hanibal, some drunken old men who got quite a kick out of telling us a bakery was a museum, and a nice family in their backyard who simply laughed at us when Julian politely asked for directions (yes, we got lost in a town about the size of my shoe). Returning to the hotel, we slept, played with giant chess pieces, ran, or just explored the surrounding forest. The theme of today? Thumbs up for Nature! Written by Katie, Jessica, Annika and Marie Editor's Note: The baptism of three children at the service in the Georgkirche was as the same fount used to baptize Bach. The Youth Choir was part of the service and sang wonderfully from the Choir loft. Return to Germany/Austria Tour Itinerary |
