Eisenach

The day started wonderfully, with gray skies and lots of rain. Sasha and Apple woke up early and were taken on a tour of the city (thanks, Joe). After all of us woke up and dragged ourselves out of bed, we congregated in the lobby to wait for the bus. Most of us soon found our way outside and stood in the rain. Those of us who had them donned our ponchos and set out like blue geese around town. We saw all the sites, the Bach House, the Martin Luther House, and the lovely churches and buildings. We then ate lunch, most of us snacking at a small pizza place. We shopped and went sightseeing, using the time to feel the German city and the expensive prices. We then parted with the Youth Choir and went off to rehearsal. We sang our songs, then frolicked to Wartburg Castle. We saw beautiful sites, the chapel, and the tower, where we gulped down our fears and peered down from the towering heights. We then sang in a tiny chapel and had a wonderful service. Finally, we gathered with Youth Choir and wandered into the woods for a "surprise" dinner. As we walked up a great, big hill, we frolicked in the joy of our "surprise." But as we rounded the corner, we found our real surprise: eight horse-drawn carriages carried us to our dinner. We climbed in behind our young, attractive, non-English speaking driver (okay, most of them weren't, but ours was). As we tried to ask about the horses, he smiled, looked confused and mumbled something in German. We smiled, looked confused and mumbled something in English. We arrived at dinner. While eating sausage and sauerkraut, we played on the swings and slide. After a delicious dinner, we ran down the hill and into the bus and traveled more. We look forward to another day of walking through Deutschland.
