UCSBOver the summer of 2002 I'll be playing Hermia in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in an open-air theater in Old Town, and after that, I'll be touring with the choir (about which I am thrilled). In late September, I'll be starting school at UC Santa Barabara, where I'll be majoring in theater. I do hope to stay in touch with the choir, so I hope anyone will feel free to email me!

Tacoma, WashingtonChelsea Smith writes: "Katie DeWitt is studying to become a paralegal while working at a law firm there. She is engaged to be married on July 17 to Michael Williams (I'm going to be her maid of honor, so I'm a good source on Katie's life!). She is a huge Mariners fan (and she LOVES pointing out to me how much better they are than the Padres--though I think that the Giants could take them both...)."

Mt. Holyoke, South Hadley, MAI'm currently enjoying my senior year here at Mount Holyoke. Now that the rugby season is over, I'm shifting my focus to studying for the GRE and LSAT, trying to figure out grad school and what to do with my life. A double major in religion and sociology can be applied to virtually any context, but mainly I just want my impact to be a positive one. I suppose that's Polly's legacy, to me at least. Other than career issues, I'm keeping busy as a dorm rep to the class board, serving on Commencement Committee, and interviewing prospectives in the admissions office. Glad to hear everyone's doing so well!

San Diego, CAI'm working on three projects right now. I'm not sure how far I'll get on them, but hopefully at least one of them will be successful. The first is a novel, the second is getting a webcomic going, and the third is a children's book about a trip to the zoo and all the wonderful animals and interesting things a young child would learn there. There's a lot of poetry and research going into that last one. I'm also advocating for people with mental illness. I was in the Union Tribune on Oct 23, 2007 in an article called "Safeguarding Young Minds", and was on Inside San Diego on November 15th, 2007 talking about what it's like to have a mental illness. The segment is called "When To Worry About Bizarre Teen Behavior", and at the time I'm posting this, it's still able to be seen on the KUSI website if you search for that title. In addition to this, I'm looking for somewhere to volunteer to spend some of my time helping people. I hope to get in touch with some of my old choir friends and see what they're doing. Hope everybody's doing okay. Have a nice day!

UC BerkeleyI just finished my first year at UC Berkeley, and am enjoying the academic and extracurricular vitality. I am currently a managing editor for the Berkeley Political Review, a member of the debate team [parli debate], and a singer in the University of California Men's Chorale. I intend to major in philosophy and economics, as well as minor in public policy. Regardless of where I am, I enjoy singing and SDCC has forever implanted some songs in me such that when Sarah Varki and I recently toured with the mens and womens chorale, we both bursted out in harmonies of songs we had sung in middle school in the SDCC. I'll be in Berkeley over the summer studying, working, and perhaps doing some research.

UC BerkeleyWell, right now I'm in my first semester at UC Berkeley. I'm an intended Psychology major, and a potential Peace and Conflict Studies and/or Theatre major. This is the second day of day light's savings, a time of the year that for the past 10 years was either characterized by driving home in the dark (back in prep choir) or driving to choir in the dark (concert choir on). I'm missing my loving choir. I'm singing all the time, but not in a choir. I think I will next year, but I don't have any immediate plans. I am really looking forward to watching the choir perform this Winter. It's strange to be disconnected from the happenings in choir. I don't even know how things are with the new director. Anyhow, I miss and love you all. Sing beautifully for me.

Graduated from CSUSM with a BA in Visual and Performing Arts, emphasis in Music and minor in theatre. So I'm excited that I'm actually using my college education :)

I'm currently a Sophmore at Cal State San Marcos, and majoring in Visual Performing Art on the Music Track. I've also taken over the choir at my church, it's really hard to lead a choir. That's about all. It took me way to long to find out how to put info up.

UCSDI thought I'd submit some info to the grad site. I'm still at UCSD, but I'm an International Studies major with concentration in Linguistics and Literature. I'm also still studying voice. Actually, I have a performance coming up on March 7 at UCSD. I'm performing a duet from the opera L'amico Fritz by Mascagni ("Duetto delle Ciliege"), so if anyone wants to come, it's at 8 PM in the Mandeville Recital Hall. There are directions on UCSD's website. Hope everything's going well with the choir!

San DiegoTo all the parents, choir members, directors, volunteers....especially Ken Herman, thank you so much for keeping this choir alive. I am going through so many emotions right now. I graduated from the SDCC in 1998. I was in the choir for 8 years, since the first day it began. As I looked through this website, memories came flooding back to me...the England/Scottland tour, the Italy tour, all the friends I made, the songs we sang (I can still remember the words and harmonies)...and mostly, Polly. Polly gave me the chance to discover myself and the chance to shine. I miss her terribly and hate myself for not making it back to SD for her passing. I'm sure you can imagine what an impact she and the choir had on my life. Anyways, thank you.

Neither here nor thereThis is so unfair. No one else has the webmaster poking her to update every time someone else does.

Long story short:

Past: I went to France. I met this boy. He was Welsh. I moved to Wales. I hated the weather. I got engaged. I got a visa. I worked as a waitress. The visa expired.

Present: Now I sit in the house on my computer. I blog. I email people. I stalk people on myspace. I fail to find Sarah Dougan. I still hate the weather. My fianc? works all day. I take the bus to the gym. We have dinner late. We watch Friends reruns. We go to bed. It's not very exciting.

Future: I'm moving back to San Diego in August. My fianc? is joining me in October. We'll live with my parents until we all drive each other crazy. Then we'll re-evaluate. I'm going to be Donna's assistant at the Choir office. She hired me because she somehow got the impression that I speak Spanish. I'll get a Spanish tutor. I'll finally get to drive again. I'll spend all my hard-earned Choir office money on gas. I'll get married next July.

suggestion: Where's my dollar?

10/5/2003 At one point, I could have graduated after only three years at UCSB. So instead, I decided to take the minimum amount of units and graduate with my class.

Then I started taking French. Then I fell in love with French (or rather, rekindled a love that I found in Rouen, in crepes du fromage and protein-deficiencies solved by Chicken McNuggets five years ago). Then I took French all summer. Then I decided to minor in French. Now my degree will not be finished in the four years I'd planned, but in four-years-and-then-some.

But all is not lost! The impending fifth year, so dreaded by all college students, will be, if all goes according to plan and Dad's money, spent somewhere in the south of France. (Rouen is not an option, sadly, nor is Paris, which I find totally bizarre.)

In conclusion, I RULE!

I'm a choir Alum, and I recently applied to Law School (I was accepted and received substantial merit scholarships). For my personal statement, I chose to write about Polly and my experiences in the choir. Polly’s husband Jim asked me to provide it to the Choir where they posted it in Polly’s Founder Area on the "outpouring of love" link.

8/19/07 The last year has been pretty crazy for me! Last June I got married in an intimate little ceremony in my best friend's garden. Then, two months later the new hubby got hired by Lexmark, and we packed up and moved to Lexington, KY. It's been a pretty big adjustment (what do you MEAN we can't buy booze on Sundays?!), but we're making the best of the opportunities here. Last winter we traded in his Corvette (not exactly a good daily driver) and bought a new, used, winter-ready Saab (heated seats are a definite MUST!), and then in March we bought a cute little house ("little" by KY standards... 2000 sq ft was as small as we could find!). I'm in the process of applying to Law School at the University of Kentucky (Go Cats!) and working at Lexmark as a contractor. Mike (the hubby) makes frequent trips to China for work, so thanks to the frequest flier miles, I get to come back to San Diego pretty frequently, but the fish taco levels in my system still reach dange! rously low levels in between trips :) I haven't found a choir here yet, but I'm looking. I've been focusing on working on the house and expanding my culinary repertoire (no Mexican AND no Jack in the Box... I've had to get pretty creative). I hope everyone is well, and if anyone has any advice for this Law School applicant let me know! :)

6/11/2004 So, the other night I'm at work and I see this woman that looks JUST LIKE POLLY!!! And I think to myself (in my exhausted, semi-dillusional state) "Gosh, I've got to get in touch with Polly and see how she and the choir are doing." And then I realized the mistake I'd made. It's amazing that, four years after leaving the choir and 3 years after Polly's death, the connections that were formed in the choir are almost as strong as if Polly was still alive. I miss her and all of the great people that I credit her with introducing me to, and I thank God for the opportunity to know her and her passion for music and life. She made each and every one of us a better musician and a better person. :)

PS. Marie, call me, girl, I've been DYING to speak French with someone!!! Actually, that goes for any Francophile who reads this :) Peace out.

St. Olaf CollegeIt's been a while since I've updated, so I thought I'd give it a go! I'm a Junior at St. Olaf, and still having the time of my life in the frozen tundra that is rural Minnesota! I'm still majoring in religion, and have recently decided to pursue a Masters of Divinity. I'm still singing away at Olaf, and having such a great time with the amazing music faculty (although this year I'm a 1st Soprano...God help us all). It's wonderful to read all the other updates; I wish all of you the best of luck and a wonderful New Year!

Santa BarbaraI am in my 3rd month of teaching first grade at an elementary school and I am having tons of fun! I couldn't be happier. Life is great! I miss everybody from the choir and think about them from time to time!

2/16/2004 - It's my senior year at UCSB and have finally decided on my major- English. It took long enough to finally figure this one out but I am very pleased with the major! I will be walking in commencement in spring but plan on taking one more quarter (and actually graduating) early next year. I will be staying in Santa Barbara for a year to work and am applying to the Graduate Teaching program here at UCSB. If all goes as planned, I will be here the next 2 years, get my masters in education and teach elementary school. Hope everyone is doing well! Miss you all!

Anthem, Arizona in route to Kansas City, KansasMany thnks to Ryan Willis for stepping in and stepping up to the job of choir assistant. You rock! I had such a cool expierence working with Donna and Jackie, they are so dedicated to keeping Polly's vision alive and are an amazing part of the choir.

I am currently in the process of moving from Anthem, Arizona to my new home Kansas City, Kansas to live with my husband Geoff. I plan on joining some sort of choir once we are settled and would love to hear from you all. Hey maybe we can do another alumni event...keep me posted Ryan and Marie!! Take care!!!

London, UK Right now, I'm studying abroad in London for the Spring 2004 semester as a part of the ND London Programme with an internship with a Member of Parliament. Whilst in London I am not currently singing in a choir, but am excited about returning to my final year with the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir in the fall (www.nd.edu/~litchoir). Being in London has brought back a lot of great memories from GB Tour 1994. Last week I went to Munich and went to a concert with Diana Frank at Oskar von Miller Gymnasium, the same place that we gave our joint concert with the Germans in 2000 (thanks Marie for Diana's e-mail). Hope all is well with everyone!

University of PennsylvaniaThis year I joined the Choral Society at Penn as a second soprano. We have over 100 members, from the University--undergrads, graduate students, faculty, employees--and from the community, and our director gets paid by the University to direct a number of groups affiliated with the school. In the Fall we performed, with our own University Symphony Orchestra, Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces: "Ave Maria", "Stabat Mater", "Laudi alla Vergine Maria", and "Te Deum". This semester we performed with the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra, a very highly acclaimed community symphony orchestra. The first half was Bruckner's "Te Deum", and the second half was Beethoven's "Symphonie No. 9". They were both really amazing concerts. We got a reviewer from the Philadelphia Inquirer (who is usually very skeptical) to come out and hear us, simply because he wanted to witness a choir's soprano's sing both Brucker and Beethoven's 9th in the same concert.

Washington, DCIs anyone else from '98 going to sing on May 14? I am excited to go back and sing with the choir, even just for one song! Although, I am sure it will be very strange without Polly. So, where am I? I am still in the DC area. I manage the operations for the CFO of a national labor organization. I never thought this is where I would be now, but I am enjoying it. It is great experience. I am not singing, so my voice will be rusty in May :) But I am still dancing a bit and continue to travel. I hope to see some familiar faces at the concert. My best to you all.

Carlsbad, CAI graduated with my Masters degree from UCSD last year, exactly two weeks before marrying the incredible Daniel Monahan. I'm still hanging out in SD (NC), and am working at the corporate headquarters for Chuao Chocolatier doing sales. I love, Love, LOVE my job! I'm also looking to get more involved with the choir, now that life has settled down a bit.

It was so fun seeing many of you at the Spring Concert this year! We should do that more often!

Suggestion: The choir needs an Alumni Association, as well as an alum on the Board of Directors. Now that we're growing up and doing interesting things with our lives, many of us would love to give back to the choir, and it would be smart for the SDCC to take advantage of the variety of skills and experience that its alums now have to offer. I'd be happy to volunteer to serve on the board or in another capacity, if I'm an appropriate match. Good luck on the Alaska cruise!

12/6/03 After finishing up a year stint in D.C. working both on Capitol Hill and for a trade association, I've decided to pursue graduate studies in none other than San Diego. I'm currently working on my Masters of International Affairs at UCSD's Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies.

UC IrvineI'm still going to UC Irvine, but I'm working down in San Diego on the weekends. Yes, I realize that this is kind of insane. In other news, I'm getting ready to study abroad in Singapore next year! I can't really decide if I'm excited or scared yet, but I've been told that's pretty normal. Unfortunately, I think this means I won't be able to do the alumni concert next year. Bah.

I'm currently working at Qualcomm and getting ready to move up to Irvine in the fall for school. I still can't believe that it's really over for me, but I suppose that when I start school and realize that my Tuesday nights are free it'll really hit me.

We completed successful missions with our Marines providing security for major Diplomatic conferences in the Persian Gulf, the Dubai Air Show, port visits throughout the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean, as well as several boardings in support of Maritime Security Operations in the Gulf.

I will be getting married in September 2008 to my fianc? Catherine in Charlotte, North Carolina. We will be moving to Annapolis, Maryland, where I have accepted a position teaching Naval Science at the United States Naval Academy.

Currently out at sea off the coast of Georgia and stumbled back onto this webpage. I'm currently the Navigator, Administration Officer and Legal Officer on the Guided Missile Frigate USS KAUFFMAN (FFG-59) out of Norfolk, VA. I'm going back out on deployment in November to the Mediterranean followed by 4 months in West Africa conducting anti-piracy/smuggling operations with the Coast Guard. I start grad school next summer (once I'm done with applications!) and heading to either Afloat Training Group Pacific Fleet, Commander US Third Fleet, Commander Naval Surface Forces Pacific staffs or teaching at the Naval Academy in Annapolis. That's the latest and greatest. Stay in touch!

9/18/2003 - I was bored one night so I figured I'd send an update. I just graduated from Holy Cross in Worcester, MA with a BA in Political Science. I am a Naval Officer and am currently the First Division Officer and soon to be Electronic Warfare Officer on board the USS Denver stationed in San Diego. Hope all is well.

I have just been hired to teach music and begin a choir at King Chavez Academy in Barrio Logan. So, here's to Polly and San Diego Children's choir for helping me get here and hopefully I can make a difference for this group of young children like Polly did for me. I hope everyone is doing fabulous!! If anyone has any suggestions on songs, let me know! :)

Del Mar, CAStill studying at UCSD, I'm a filmmaking and business major now. I assumed the position of Head Producer of three departments on campus: UCSD Research, UCSD Student Health, and UCSD Environmental Sustainability.

I'm preparing to Study Abroad. Because SDCC opened me to traveling the world, I wanted to extend that into college. I signed up to be transferred to the University of Virginia and attend their Semester at Sea program.

The trip takes me to the Bahamas, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, India, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Japan, Hawaii, Guatemala, Panama, and Florida. It's like a Choir Trip for three months. I HIGHLY recommend it for anyone that toured and wants to study abroad in college.

Either way, I leave in January 2009 and return May 2009. When I return, I hope to intern in Los Angeles at a major motion picture studio, be it Sony or Universal and then return to UCSD and finish my degree.
