My favorite tour of all time had to be Italy in 2005. I have always wanted to travel and see the world, and the SDCC gave me that opportunity. I loved seeing Venice, Florence, and Rome; but even more, I enjoyed the experience of seeing all the lesser known and smaller walled cities, and mingling with the culture of those people. |

Honestly, it's difficult to pick just one. I'll always love ‘Gaudete’, because it sounded so awesomely epic, and me and my friends always were reminded of Lord of the Rings when we sang it. Another one is ‘Adiemus’; it's so lyrical, and I remember singing it when I was first in Intermediate choir. |

I will never ever forget this one time from the Italy tour. It was our last night in Venice. When we had entered the restaurant for dinner, it was already raining a little. But when we came out afterwards, it was POURING. I mean, thunder, lighting - the whole shebang. But because of the humidity, it was warm rain, right? So me, Kathleen Winger, and Corey [...] were out on the deck of the waterbus taking us across the canal - in the pouring rain, soaking our clothes, and singing. That was the most memorable experience in all my years in the SDCC.

n keeping with everyone else: can't choose! So I'll just have to say why each one rocks.
England: First tour! Man, we were all so young...I remember the awesome Ghosts and Goblins tour of Edinburgh that scared the crap out of my 10 year old self. Homestays, double decker buses, Stonehenge, Royal Albert Hall..all amazing
California: Kind of the forgotten tour, but who could forget singing the batman theme song on the pier in those bicycle/car things? :-) And does anyone else remember singing at a random wedding?
East Coast: The 4th of July party, the medley, trying to take pictures of Polly drinking wine in the lobby below us, aching to be in youth choir!
Germany/Austria: Maybe my favorite because I was old enough to appreciate it; the most AWESOME chaperone group ever, hiking through gorges, singing while watching the incredible thunder storm in Austria, the Bach poses, singing going up a yonder at the last concert in Munich… |

My all time favorite has got to be El Shaddai; remember how beautiful that was to sing? Runners up would be: All my Trials, Goin up a Yonder, The Water is Wide, Cor Meum, and On the Willows (never sang it, but loved it) |
Will Never Forget:
-My first day of choir (who is this woman and why does she "ooooooooooooooooo"?)
-Our 'secret' hang out in the cry room -The red bows and itchy vests...which now look so cute in retrospect :-)
-How beautiful Polly's voice was, and how I would mess up on purpose just to hear her sing the part correctly
-Sarah Dougan, forever my partner in crime :-)
-All the people who have touched my life...whether or not we were the best of friends, I remember you all!
-The rides to choir with Ashley Jenks, sitting next to Sarah V. in the alto section
-The Hermanator and his amazing sense of humor
-My last concert, and how much I wished Polly could've been there
-Polly...the loveliest, most inspiring woman I have ever met

I'm a sucker for "I'm Goin' Up A Yonder," but mainly because of all the memories it brings me. I remember singing it for the first time in prep choir and being so MAD that concert choir got to sing the pretty parts of it, but I also remember the times we sang it for Polly and for Malini and barely being able to get through the song because I was crying so hard. |
Will Never Forget:
My first audition and thinking that Polly flat-out hated me, then nearly doing my third-grade victory dance when I found out I'd made it.
The Pasadena tour and shooting spitballs at people behind the chaperones' backs.
Doing the Holiday Pops concert for the first time and having the bag full of "snow" completely rip.
The Washington/Canada tour and being teased (nicely!) by all the youth choir kids.
The flight attendant uniforms (pre- and post-paisley tie... try saying that ten times fast) and wanting to wear the 80s prom dresses so badly, then only getting to do so for a year.
Listening to the girls in youth choir when I was still in prep and vowing to myself that one day, I would sound as pretty as they did.
Freezing on a rooftop once a year for Bravo San Diego.
Camp Stevens. 'Nuff said.
Being in the Regina Coeli quartet for the last concert my senior year.

All the hours spent rehearsing before a tour... and secretly loving every minute of it
riding in Kit Phelps car the entire california tour and listening to the forrest gump soundtrack over and over again....
having kit stop on top of lumbard street in San Fransisco so we can run down and see the real world house then being late for rehearsal and blaming traffic
jumping over the balconies at Asilomar then falling right infront of Pollys door....
Grace freaking out at asilomar - five of us in one bed was NOT comfy
Practically on my death bed in Italy and waking up in a convent not knowing where I was....
Singing my solo in venice with a 103 fever and shaking with sweat on the video....
Staying in youth hostels... need I say more?
Sinbinese!!!!! yeah... we were cool - don't you forget it either!!
Getting to see so many foreign places before the age of 18.... all the cultures... all the fun memories
A protest in Venice with cows on gondolas.. and making it on the international news - my parents began to worry.... us crazy americans among the venicians and their cows....
Riding the bikes in Santa Barbara and driving by polly every five minutes and singing "ooooo" to her....needless to say she liked it

What can I say?
Pasadena, Pacific Northwest, Germany/Austria, England/Wales, Australia... We all have our memories.
Mine is a general one. The comfort I had from seeing the world without any worries. The times when it was just plain fun. The singing because we all were passionate about singing. As you grow older, you lose the kid in you. You become self aware of what you are doing. Tours gave singing that sense of fulfillment. Sing whenever, where ever because you love it. Everyone loved it.

There are a lot of things I can say here that have already been said by other Alumni.
Polly's passion
Polly's sense of humor
Polly's persistence in perfection
Polly's toughness
But what it comes down to is:
Polly's choir.
I will never forget... every moment I ever had with Polly's choir. And I believe with all of my heart that neither will anyone that knows exactly what I mean above.
My ten years with SDCC had good times and bad times, happy and sad, and incredible and depressing times.
I'll never forget singing for Polly that last time on Tour... or that last time at all... I'll never forget my audition and my final concert and everything in between.
As you grow up, you look back and some people see sports teams, boy scouts, hanging with friends in the neighborhood...
SDCC was my childhood... and I wouldn't trade what a wonderful childhood it was for the world...
Thank you so much for every singer, parents, volunteer, tour guide, host family, concert venue, conductor, and audience member... any one that has ever supported SDCC in any way. You brought a childhood of dreams to hundreds to thousands of children growing up and will do so for hopefully many, many years to come.
