The San Diego Children's Choir presents
Jerry and Donna Icenhower as our Star Award Honorees for 2002. Jerry and Donna
have been choir parents for four years during which time they conducted very successful
annual fundraising raffles at our Spring Concerts. This year's raffle was no different
as Jerry and Donna worked tirelessly obtaining the gifts from various corporations,
putting together multiple baskets that lined the entire foyer of Copley Symphony
Hall, and housing and delivering the prizes to the winners.
This fall, the Choir investigated moving its office to a larger facility with its own rehearsal space. Jerry located the site, presented a plan to the Board of Directors including budgets, developed blueprints of the floor plan, and, on approval, completely implemented the plan, including negotiating the lease, buying all the furniture, renting trucks to move the furniture, building tables and storage cabinets and networking the building. Donna, during this period, took over all responsibilities for the fall registration and the office management. She coordinated all new auditions with the music leadership and then greeted all 250 choristers at four locations during the first month, insuring they were assigned to the correct choir. During this period, Jerry and Donna were volunteering approximately 70 hours per week. Their efforts were so successful that the Choir has since hired Donna as the full time office manager!
The San Diego Children's Choir owes a debt of gratitude to Jerry and Donna
and is indeed proud to have them recognized as the Star Award Honorees for 2002.
